The Time to Cut The Cord Has Arrived!

High cable prices and exorbitant satellite rates have finally crossed the line into the realm of the ridiculous. Yet, many of us continue to pay these costs because television service, and "having something on to watch" has become a near necessity in today's world. I recently joined the ranks of the Cord-Cutters - a quickly growing segment of society that has shunned the cable and satellite companies and has instead opted to stream content wirelessly via the internet. I couldn't be more happy with the choice, and I believe that others would opt for this change if they knew how easy and effective it is! This site is dedicated to providing that information, along with links to necessary equipment and content sites, so that we can once and for all remove the confusion for those who want to take this step. Enjoy!

What's new in the world of cord-cutting today?

Hello Cord Cutters!  Here's what's happening in the streaming world today:

  1. PS4 Video Streaming Services Revealed by Sony
  2. Microsoft Xbox One review: Goes further than the PS4, integrates regular live TV
  3. With New Streaming Deal, Amazon Keeps Pressure on Netflix
Enjoy.  And keep sending me feedback to make this site even better!  Let me know what resources I can add to make your cord cutting experience easier.

What's new in the world of cord cutting?

Quite a few things!  I've been away a bit so thought I'd share a few of them.  Big news, big news!  :)

1. Samsung's CableCARD box coming soon!
2. Amazon coming out with a streaming device?
3. Netflix coming to cable boxes?

Interesting stuff!  As far as #1 goes, well, I just miss the Boxee.  If you remember, Samsung purchased them in July, and has assimilated their technology to get into the streaming game.  Boxee made good stuff - here's to hoping Samsung does the same.

For #2, I'm intrigued.  I think Amazon makes a good product, and they obviously have a stake in the race with Amazon Prime Streaming.  It'll be interesting to see what their new box looks like, what it can do, and how it compares with some of the other major players (i.e.: Roku, AppleTV, PS3, etc.).  Looking forward to this one.

And finally #3: All I can say is, what's the point?  I guess I just don't understand folks who pay good money for cable.  That said, anything that will help Netflix grow is (I guess) a good thing.  Interested to see how this one turns out.

Here's to you, Cord Cutters!  :)

SuperHD, anyone?

Big news, Netflix brethren - check this out:

http://blog.streamingmedia.com/2013/09/netflix-doubles-video-quality-making-6mbps-superhd-streams-available-everyone.html

That's right - Netflix has just announced that many of their titles are available in SuperHD, which means that you'll see a x2 improvement in the video quality while watching many of your favorite shows/movies.  Very cool stuff.

Now, if I could just stream on more than 2 devices at a time...  ;)

Chromecast now has an iOS app!

The guys over at venturebeat.com detail the new app: http://venturebeat.com/2013/08/27/googles-killer-chromecast-media-streamer-gets-its-own-ios-app/  Cool stuff!  Get your Chromecast here:

Can't wait to pick one up - the ability to stream from my laptop or tablet without an AppleTV sounds heavenly to me.  :)

PlayStation Sunday Ticket Update!

Apparently Sony and the NFL will not be renewing their agreement to carry Sunday Ticket on PlayStation this year.  Definitely bad news, but don't despair - there are other options!  Here's what I'm going to do:
    • I'm going to order Madden NFL 25th Anniversary Edition, which comes with a free year of Sunday Ticket if you're not a DirecTV subscriber (and of course, I'm not) on your tablet, phone, or computer.
    • Madden NFL 25 Anniversary Edition with NFL Sunday Ticket: $99.99
    • I'm going to purchase another HDMI cable to connect my laptop to my TV - I figure a 15' cord will work well for my living room.
    • Voila!  NFL Sunday Ticket on the TV! :)
There are many ways to skin this cat, but this is one good way to get it done, and cheaply at that!  $100 for a year of Sunday Ticket is an absolute GONGA deal, so take advantage of this offer before it's sold out.  Best of luck!
